EquestriMalta President’s Cup Finalists Known

On Wednesday 13th December, Republic Day, we will have the President’s Cup Final which for the third consecutive year is being sponsored by EquestriMalta, the authority that regulates all local equestrian sport. This is the second highest honour in the local harness racing calendar and every owner and driver aspires to have his name engraved on the prestigious trophy by Maltese artist George Muscat and commissioned by H.E. President Emeritus George Abela in 2012.

During a press conference held on Monday afternoon, EquestriMalta’s Chairman Mr John Huber stated that through his experience as Chairman of the MCCFF he knows that the horse racing community has been helping financially the Malta Community Chest Fund for many years so he is sure that this year will not be an exception. For him this year will be different as it is the first time he is also the Chairman of EquestriMalta and so he appealed to the owners to believe in the Authority’s importance as the work being done is a significant one even though maybe not always publicised and he is sure that the equestrian community will be hearing and experiencing more initiatives and measures to improve this sport.

Mr Max Zammit, CEO of EquestriMalta congratulated all the finalists stating that it was a pleasure for EquestriMalta to be supporting the President’s Cup for the third consecutive year. He anticipated a balanced and spectacular race whilst mentioning that the total prize money being distributed in the final amounts to €7400 which is the highest one ever for this competition.

Also present were Malta Racing Club’s Vice Chairman Mr Anthony Demanuele and Malta Equidrome’s CEO Dr Matthew Brincat. Both of them wished a great race to all participants and that the best horse of the day will win. They also appealed for all those present on the day to be generous so that as has been done in the past years a nice sum of money is presented to l-Istrina.

The EquestriMalta President’s Cup is once again being organised under the Patronage of The President of Malta and H.E. Dr George Vella will be distributing the trophies to the winners.

As per tradition and rules of this competition, the owners themselves chose the starting numbers for their horses in the final. This was done according to the results obtained during the semi finals raced on Sunday 3rd December.
